The morning was mostly leisure with another walk added to the tour, but I
skipped it. After lunch, we left the Amazon, passed through Iquitos quickly, and
flew back to Lima.
Over the past few days, I had been suffering low-level discomforts: sore throat,
headache, sneezing, runny nose, stomach upset, and muscle pain. These are all
possible side effects of the anti-malaria medication I was on, atovaquone, and
they continued until I finished the medication course. All of them were low
intensity and short-term, but they put a damper on being on vacation, so I am
going to try a different medication for Africa, mefloquine. It has different
side effects, like anxiety, depression, and confusion. (Some of the other people
on the trip had terrible doctors who put them on malaria medication instead of
anti-malaria medication.)
